The Flock ......

 Torddu Ewes

The flock runs about 70 ewes, with 15 - 20 ewe lambs kept as replacements each year.  Half of the ewes run with a pure Torddu ram, whilst the remainder are used to breed Suffolk cross lambs.

Lambing takes place during March and whilst we aim to breed true to type Badger Faces from the pure flock, those lambs which are not to show ring standard or suitable for our breeding flock, have to grow into a butchers lamb suitable for todays market.

Torddu wether and Suffolk cross lambs have been sold as fat lambs in the past.  However, this year we were approached by an estate farm looking to purchase Torddu wether lambs to run as part of their farm environmental scheme.  A sale was agreed for these lambs, whilst the Suffolk lambs have been sold through local livestock markets and at both the English and Welsh Winter Fairs, following the showing classes.

Finishing weights are approximately 32 - 38 kg for the pure-bred lambs, with the Suffolks between 36 and 44 kg.
